An exhibition by Dorothy Dawson, Angela Holmes and Pam Brooker
THE ARTIST’S JOURNEY
Who are these mysterious people called artists? What are their origins? Is ‘being an artist’ something you are born with, or can you deliberately work up to it? How do you distinguish between an art and a craft? How do you distinguish between copying, homage, derivation, inspiration and plagiarism? How OK is it for an artist to alter their style? Why do artists choose one medium over another? Can somebody who only ever works in one style and one medium - the one-trick pony - truly call themselves an artist?
The artist’s journey’ looks at three artists who have made significant moves between styles and media, using both two dimensional art (paintings, drawings, prints) and three (sculpture, ceramics, models).
There will be a visitors book which we hope you will sign and where we would like you to leave a comment. We do not want ‘great show’ or ‘lovely work’. We want to know whether it has given you some insight into the above questions - what do you really think?
