Shape & Shadow
South West Sculptors Association will be exhibiting in TAAG, Teignmouth Arts Centre for the first time, bringing an eclectic mixture of sculptures titled “Shape and Shadow”
SWS sculptors is an inclusive group of, at present, 24 sculptors whose aim is to collaborate and promote their passion for sculpture. It was seeded in 2003 through initiative of Totnes bases sculptors and has grown in strength to embrace sculptors distributed throughout Devon.
The richness of the group has been in forging friendships, sharing problems, aims and resources in the context of sculpture.
Rotating gatherings throughout our different homes and studios can be likened to a magical theatre opening into unique creative atmospheres and spaces from moorland to coastline. It is fascinating to understand people differently through what they make. There is a strong figurative impulse within the work yet figures are as diverse as the personalities behind them and include realistic and conceptual, mythological and humorous, elegant and erotic. In complement, there is plenty of abstract work which draws inspiration from elements and environments, the universal and the spiritual.
This year members have participated in outdoor sculpture shows including Dartington Gardens, Delamore House, Ivybidge and the Mythic Garden, Chagford. We are currently looking forward to an exciting new exhibiting opportunity at Exeter Cathedral in 2019. In the meantime, we invite you to journey through the group's work where smaller works for home as well as garden can be enjoyed in the more intimate environment of TAAG.
