Celebrate the Queen's Jubilee with Bunting - Click Here

  • TAAG Arts & Community Centre 4 Northumberland Pl Teignmouth, England, TQ14 United Kingdom (map)

HM The Queen Elizabeth II is the first monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, having overtaken Queen Victoria as the longest reigning monarch in 2015. Her reign has been marked by a commitment to public service.

To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, TAAG artists Sam Lock and Amy McCarthy have created the Teignmouth Jubilee Recycled Bunting Project, where we invite the whole town to come together in a large community collaboration.

Taking inspiration from the street parties of the past that have celebrated the various life stages of the Queen, the project aims to create a jolly, celebratory, vintage atmosphere in celebration of the Queens Platinum Jubilee.

As bunting is a traditional festive decoration, we hope this project initiates conversations between generations and memories of other national celebrations of the past and to provide future memories through being involved in a wonderful community collaboration.

Amy and Sam will be leading a series of  community workshops in different venues and settings, in the run up to the Jubilee weekend and over the UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June.

With the 'make do and mend' mentality of the past in mind, hundreds of recycled craft packs  have been made to be distributed locally, for people to make bunting at home, in their community groups and schools. Each pack will include a keepsake book with instructions and all the materials needed to complete several bunting flags.

The finished flags will be installed around the town to brighten up our streets and create a celebratory, joyous holiday atmosphere  to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and will remain in place for the whole summer season for all to admire.

We’re asking Teignmouth residents, schools, community groups and craft groups to pick up one of our materials packs and make as much recycled bunting as we can to brighten up our town before the Jubilee Weekend. The packs will be available from the Beachcomber shortly but meanwhile you can access the project instructions below.
