  • Furthering understanding through community education opportunities.

  • Developing collaborations between local artists and other groups and organisations to share knowledge, skills and experience.

  • Educating, preserving and helping to protect the Dartmoor Granite Tramway; encouraging exploration of Dartmoor’s past, in order to conserve its wildlife, improve understanding of this rich landscape and develop and share the skills to look after it for generations to come.

Artists taking part are

Sally Anderson, Bridget Arnold , Clare Benson, Tony Homer, Mei Lim Marilyn Murch , Viv Styles, Jean Tom, Cheryl Watson, Sue Windsor

Cheryl Watson -, Ceramics and printmaking

Since moving to Devon in 2012, I have been privileged to find myself working amongst an amazing group of artists. TAAG has enabled me to meet many creative people

My work, via these connections, has moved from a naive style of painting and printmaking to wood block reduction printmaking and hand built ceramics.

As a result I have now taken part in some 8 exhibitions at TAAG and four Devon Open Studios.

I work with a printmaking group based at TAAG and with a stone carver/ceramicist/printmaker based in Chudleigh.

There is no doubt that the contacts made via TAAG have been highly influential in my creative life.

Clare Benson

I grew up in London and studied painting at Bath Academy of Art. Later I studied art history, and did work ranging from school teaching and tutoring for the Open University to running family workshops, but always involving art and crafts in some form.

In recent years, two things have helped me gain confidence and develop as an artist. One is taking part in Open Studios and other  exhibitions, which I first did in 2006. The other is belonging to a group of creative people, first 'Mainly Stitch' textile art group in Derbyshire, where I lived from 2008-14, and, since I moved back to Devon, Granite Elements.

The work I am showing here, all done out of doors, celebrates autumn colours in East Dartmoor where I live.

Jean Toms

Jean was born in Poole Dorset ,

And has always been interested in Art & Photography since a young child, Mostly Self Taught she works mainly in mixed Media and is inspired by the Landscape, Nature and Textures of Dartmoor.

She now lives in Bovey Tracey and is a member of Bovey Tracey Society of Artists  and Granite Elements.

Bridget Arnold

Capturing the magic of nature in the moment, using Cyanotype chemicals and sunshine to make unique handmade, one off prints of plants and found objects from Dartmoor.

I have been silk painting for at least 28 years and have developed the sun printing skills to work alongside the silk painting.

Since leading a project called Granite Elements, which started in 2016, I have been responding to a sense of place, working and walking on Dartmoor and the Granite Tramway.  I have been extending my Cyanotype work on Silk, Sun Printing plants and found objects from the Granite Tramway, but also working on developing prints on different sorts of textiles and paper.

Currently I am developing making very gorgeous Coptic bound handmade books with sun printed covers and making stunning Lamp shades covered with Sun Printed material.

I also run workshops in Sun Printing and making Sun Printed Lamp Shades in my studio in Bovey Tracey.

Viv Styles  Printmaker

I enjoy printing from wood engravings, lino and wood cuts, as well as collagraph and drypoint etching. Many of my prints find their way onto the covers of my handbound sketch books.

I am primarily a printmaker but find drawing and painting are essential preparation for the process.

Living in Bovey Tracey on the edge of Dartmoor, I can’t fail to be inspired by the landscape around me.

Walking and sketching outdoors provides a wealth of inspiration from the glorious granite tors and rocky outcrops of the open moor, to shady woodlands and riverside trails.

Printmaking workshops available in Bovey Tracey for individuals and small groups.

Sally Anderson

Known mainly for her coastal paintings and prints, Sally Anderson also enjoys being part of the Granite Elements group based at the Woodland Centre in Yarner Wood.

She has visited Dartmoor throughout her whole life, and has walked and ridden over many different areas of the moor.

The print she has created for this exhibition combines four areas that are particularly important to her :- Sharp Tor (above Poundsgate), Widecombe-in-the-moor, Nun’s Cross Farm and Yarner Wood.

Sue Windsor

Sue is originally from Walsall, West Midlands. She spent many years in Eastbourne, Susses and has now settled in Chudleigh Knighton, Devon.

Art has always been her favourite pastime . She has always enjoyed drawing but apart from doing art at school is entirely self taught.

It is only in recent years that she finds that she has the time to ‘play’ and experiment with different mediums and to share her work through exhibitions.

She belongs to the Bovey Tracey Society of Artists where she has learned so much by attending workshops and demonstrations.

“It’s a great way to leaden new techniques and meet up with like minded friends” she says.
